Since I began my journey of specializing in newborn photography, I never knew how in depth and intricate these sessions could be. When I go to client’s homes , I want to be completely prepared – between studio style floor drops, backdrops, props, the perfect sets of matching wraps, tiebacks, hats, and layers, as well as studio lighting and everything necessary for baby as well as family (and yes pee and poo!) It can seem like the list never ends. Which is why at this point, clients can find comfort in the fact that I have it down to a science.
 I even have a hair and makeup artist available if mom wants to feel and look her best especially right after being out of the hospital.

Siblings:If little ones are involved, we usually start with sibling images while they are still super curious!We try a few different shots (with safety always in mind) with baby and siblings. If siblings are toddlers, we ease them into it so that they feel happy and comfortable in front of the camera. Sometimes the use of songs, fun videos, and yes even the promise of a yummy snack is even necessary. We do what we can to get these beautiful and timeless shots.
Family:Next, we can have the little ones take a quick break while we do some mommy and baby shots, daddy and baby, and then mom and dad, with baby. After that we bring the whole crew back in! Fur babies are more than welcome. This is a fun part of the session, and sometimes we do these at the beginning of the session as well- it helps to get these out of the way if the other little ones nap or get antsy.

Newborn Baby portion of the session:I normally have mom give baby a feeding before we begin this portion of the session. We really try to get baby really warm and sleepy. I start with naked baby poses on the beanbag, and slowly transition to props and wrapped up shots, depending on what parents love. That will all be determined at the pre session consultation

For this particular session in Stamford , CT I arrived at my client’s home and we gave baby a full feeding. With two older siblings and everyone being under five years old I made a quick decision to start off with the sibling images. It was a great idea because shortly after this part, big bro and big sis started to get really hungry. After that we transitioned quickly into family shots. This is always so sweet and cute seeing the whole family interact together. Once we were done with that, we were able to continue the session with baby alone, and the other littles were able to go and play. 

Typically, sessions can take anywhere from 2-3 hours. It is such a momentous time in your life, and it really is amazing and an honor to get a glimpse into your whole new world.
