There are so many times that I’ve been asked: What is the difference between a Home Newborn Session vs. our studio sessions?
Well this is the breakdown. When I first began my newborn photography journey just like many others before me, I was a “travel tog” and did all of my sessions in client homes. Oddly enough, I was super comfortable with this because my previous job as a survey researcher I did exactly that- go to client homes for work all over the U.S.
Home Sessions:
Fast forward, and it really became my “thing”. As I got better at my craft, I used to work solely with natural light which was great and beautiful. However, I really wanted to aim for more consistency- working in different environment, lighting situations, apartments, and homes, it could get tricky. By learning strobe lighting, this changed the game for me- I could bring the studio to my client’s home and complete a full studio style newborn session- in the comfort of your home.
I bring it all, you name it-backdrops, floor drops, props, lighting, wraps, stuffies, headbands, hats, outfits, and more. I like to be over prepared : ) I would say the main difference is when we get to the family segment. As mentioned it gets tricky, especially in small spaces. There could be a lot of clutter, or just highly decorated walls which makes it tough to get a family segment in that looks professional and classic. In that case, we get creative. I ask my clients to show me the way to a window or the nursery if it has good lighting and we use good ole’ fashioned natural light for the parents shot- we get a lifestyle-y yet natural posing vibe.

Studio Newborn Sessions:
There is no question that the main perk about sessions inside our beautiful studio is the SPACE. With our 20 ft ceilings, various canvas backdrops, and endless selection of props- we are in no way limited. New moms also have access to our couture gowns in our maternity and newborn client closet.
Similar to home sessions, we achieve family, sibling, and baby moments, but the feeling of the studio is of course different. Parents can sit back, relax, or even nap while I work with baby.
Truthfully, I really love both. Whichever route you choose, rest assured that we will be able to capture your precious, tiny baby in the most special way.
