Finding the sweet spot for your maternity session is all about two things: you want a beautiful and round bump, but you also want to feel comfortable enough to move around.
If you wait too long, you might risk being uncomfortable—or even going into early labor- these babies are so unpredictable already! If you book too early, your bump might not show up as clearly on camera as you’d like.
Whether we are shooting a high-end, editorial session in my photography studio on the Stratford/Bridgeport coast of Connecticut or doing a sunset beach session in Fairfield, here is the timeline I recommend.

For most expectant moms, the absolute best time to shoot is between 28 and 32 weeks (right around the start of your third trimester).
Here are some reasons why I am adamant about this time window:
Note: If you are expecting twins or multiples, I recommend moving this window up to 24 to 26 weeks, as multiple pregnancies tend to progress a bit faster.

The third trimester flies by faster than you think. Between doctor appointments, baby showers, and prepping the nursery, weekends across Fairfield County New Haven fill up fast.
To make sure you get the date you want, use these tips:
1. Reach Out During Your Second Trimester
Don’t wait until you hit the 28-week mark to reach out. The best time to secure your spot on the calendar is early in your second trimester. This ensures you get first pick of dates, especially if you are hoping for a weekend sunset session or in the studio.
2. Coordinate Your Hair and Makeup Time
If you plan on getting professional hair and makeup done (which I highly recommend), remember to block out a solid 2 to 2.5 hours right before the session start time. Factor in travel time to the studio or your outdoor location so you never feel rushed.
